Kickboxers Madhu, Somil from Chitkara varsity bag gold medals

Madhu, a student of Chitkara University, pursuing MBA Retail Management, won gold medal in the U- 60kg point fight at the All-India Inter-University Kickboxing Championship (men and women) held at Swami Vivekananda Subharti University in Meerut.

Somil Pathania, pursuing third year in Computer Science and Engineering, also bagged gold in the U-52kg weight category of the point fight event. In the semifinals, Somil defeated Chandan Kumar from Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo, by seven points. In the final, she blanked Harsh Kaushik from IIMT University by five points.

Madhu won her semifinal match against Menaria Pranjal of Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Rajasthan. She recorded a 10-6 win, while in the final she dominated against Bhumika Yadav of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, by recording an 11-1 victory.

Dr Madhu Chitkara, Pro-Chancellor, Chitkara University, congratulated the players. “The players worked hard to earn the top podium position. The university is having a vast sports infrastructure and our players have made us all proud,” said Dr Madhu.
