Zirakpur, April 20
A readymade garment shop owner foiled a bid to loot Rs. 30,000 at knifepoint by a masked girl in the busy Palm Street market on VIP Road in Zirakpur this afternoon. The complainant stated that a masked girl entered B-Block shop Kritika Readymade Garments around noon and asked for a pair of jeans and a night suit. The girl went to a trial room and soon came out complaining about a cockroach. The owner, Mukesh Kumar, asked the girl to come out and went inside to check. As soon as he entered the trial room, the girl allegedly took out a knife from her purse and put it on his neck, demanding Rs. 30,000.
The incident has been captured on a CCTV camera.
The shop owner foiled the attempt and ran out of the shop. He sought the help of nearby shopkeepers and locked her inside before calling the police. The police took the girl in their custody and began an investigation on the basis of the CCTV footage. The shop owner said the girl had come to the shop earlier, but returned without buying anything.
Zirakpur SHO Onkar Singh Brar said, “The girl, a Zirakpur resident, is mentally unstable. Her kin have been called and the police are investigating the matter.”
