The Punjab Kings-Royal Challengers Benglauru clash brought the loudest cheers from the spectators as the Maharaja Yadavindra SIngh Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) International Stadium hosted the IPL qualifier I for the first time ever.

Interestingly, despite the high octane match, the spectator stands wore a deserted look till 7.30 pm. However, as the match progressed, people started pouring in. “I remained stuck in the traffic for almost 40 minutes before reaching the stadium on foot after parking my vehicle far away from the designated lot. Nevertheless, RCB is batting second and I have come to watch Virat Kohli,” said Saniya, a spectator.

With heavy police deployment, the problem of restrictions around the stadium also troubled the fans. Nevertheless, incidents of gate crashing were reported, and at some stands the fans could be seen enjoying the match standing instead of sitting on their designated seats, claimed some spectators.

“The police took some individuals out of the stands as they were without tickets,” claimed Anil, who had come there to watch the match. However, no formal complaint was registered till the filing of this report. “Such incidents are normal during such matches. People these days report any wrongdoing to the security within seconds,” added Roop, a youngster.

A social media post of pacer Arshdeep asking Punjab fans to support the side instead of the other teams was doing the rounds, but still RCB found support due to the presence of Virat Kohli. The former Indian skipper remained the centre of attraction with his on-field aggression, which perhaps Punjab players lacked today.

As the top five Punjab batters were back to the pavilion below the 50-run mark, spectators started praising RCB players. “The Punjab Kings are definitely having a great run, but RCB carry the aura of being a tough team. Just look at Kohli, the way he celebrated the first three wickets,” added Rizul, a fan.
