Top seed Krishan Hooda packed off qualifier Divanshu Hooda in straight sets to ease into the second round of the boys’ U-18 competition in St Stephen’s School CLTA-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament here today. The Haryana youngster won 6-3 6-1.

Third seed Bhupender Dahiya registered a 6-4 6-0 win over his Haryana counterpart Ansh Kundu, while Chandigarh’s Sarthak Gandhi downed Khush Sharma of Uttar Pradesh 6-3 6-4 in the opening round. Karnataka’s Ninaad Ravi humbled Arnav Arora of Punjab 6-3 6-2.

Delhi’s Abhik Arora moved into the second round with a convincing 6-0 6-2 win over Aditya Nandwal of Haryana. Uttar Pradesh’s Sukhpreet Singh Jhoje stunned Vaibhav Singh Bisht of Uttarakhand 6-2 6-1 and Haryana’s Shashikant Rajput drubbed Ravinesh Rai of Uttar Pradesh 6-0 6-1.

Gurustat Singh Makkar had an easy outing against Rohan Vikas Phule of Maharashtra. The Punjab lad won 6-2 6-0.

Torus Rawat of Uttarakhand booked a place in second round with a 7-5 6-3 win over fourth seed Pranay Choudhary of Rajasthan.

Sai stays on course

In the girls’ U-18 competition, third seed Sai Rajesh Bhoyar of Maharashtra dismissed state-mate Millee Rajesh Chug 6-0 6-1 in the opening round.

Ruma Ashutosh Gaikaiwari, also from Maharashtra, registered a 6-2 7-6(7) win over Delhi’s Ananya Singh, while Harnoor Kaur Sidhu of Haryana drubbed state-mate Sweta Rana 6-1 6-0. Chandigarh’s Konika Singh Dhull edged out Meher Mishra of Uttar Pradesh 6-2 6-1.

Chandigarh’s Radhika Vasudeva shunted out city-mate Vishita Ranbir Kumar in the first round. Radhika won 6-1 6-1. Lakshmi Prabha Arunkumar of Tamil Nadu defeated Haryana’s Aditi Singh 6-1 6-3, while fourth seed Anjali Rathi accounted for Chandigarh’s Riya Kaushik in the opening round. The Haryana girl won 6-0 6-3.

Harleen Kaur Dhanda of Punjab rallied to beat second Pavithra Reddy Narem of Andhra Pradesh in the first round. Harleen lost the opening set 6-7(4), but came back strongly to win the next two sets 6-3 6-2 and move into the second round of the championship.

Deep advances

Top seed Deep Munim showed the door to Delhi’s Raghav Poonia in the boys’ U-16 opening round. The youngster from Madhya Pradesh won 6-1 6-2.

Sixth seed Lakshay Vivek Kumar of Haryana dispatched Punjab’s Avish Verma 6-3 6-0, while Adhirit Awal of Tamil Nadu stunned third seed Khush Sharma of Uttar Pradesh 6-2 6-1 in the first round. Rijul Bhatia of Haryana bowed to state-mate Vitin Rathee 5-7 2-6.

Aryan Arora was too good for Uttar Pradesh’s Arnav Malik. The Punjab youngster won 6-1 6-0. Seventh seed Sukhpreet Singh Jhoje blanked Chandigarh’s Dhairya Chadha 6-0 6-0, while city lad Gaurav Kumar ousted Gurnoor Singh Kular of Punjab 6-3 6-0 in the first round.

Second seed Ajay Singh of Haryana registered a 6-3 6-0 win over Chandigarh’s Lakshay Gupta and Rajasthan’s Natansh Mina humbled Kartik Sunil Kumar, also from Chandigarh, 6-3 6-3.

Lakshmi progresses

In the girls’ U-16 opening round, top seed Lakshmi Prabha Arunkumar of Tamil Nadu humbled Haryana’s Vanya Arora 6-3 7-5, while Niharika Praveen Deshmukh of Telangana drubbed Ivleen 6-2 6-0. Chandigarh’s Riya Kaushik downed city-mate Maitreyi Phogat 6-0 7-5.

Fifth seed Tanushri Pandey of Uttar Pradesh edged past Millee Rajesh Chug of Maharashtra 7-6(3) 6-3, while third seed Kavya Khirwar of Delhi trounced Chandigarh’s Vishita Ranbir Kumar 6-0 6-2. Eighth seed Meher Mishra registered a 6-1 6-2 win over Delhi’s Simran Singh.
