Labourer, waiter held in Panchkula snatching case
A team from the Sector-1 Police Post has successfully cracked a snatching case and apprehended two notorious suspects.
Nitish Sharma, a resident of Bilaspur (Himachal Pradesh) currently employed in Nalagarh, had visited the Panchkula court with a friend on May 26. While resting beneath a peepal tree in Old Panchkula on their return journey, a group of young men approached and snatched approximately Rs 7,200 from them before fleeing. A complaint was filed at the Sector-7 Police Station and a case was registered under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The police initiated an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the area and gathering technical evidence. Acting on a tip-off, the team led by Sub-Inspector Ram Mehar, in charge of the Sector-1 Police Post, apprehended both suspects from the Truck Market area in Khadak Mangoli, Old Panchkula, on May 31.
The accused have been identified as Saurav alias Fauji (21), son of Vinod, a native of Nigana village, Rohtak (presently residing in Khadak Mangoli as a tenant) and Rajiv (24), son of Kapoor Chand, a resident of Khadak Mangoli.
The police investigation revealed that Rajiv is a habitual offender with five criminal cases registered against him since 2021, including charges under the NDPS Act, theft and murder. He is currently out on bail. Saurav, employed as a hotel waiter, has no prior criminal record. Police added that both individuals are substance abusers. Rajiv is employed as a labourer.
Following their arrest, both accused were presented in court today and remanded in police custody for two days. During this period, detailed interrogation will be conducted and efforts made to recover the snatched money. Police will also investigate their possible involvement in other criminal activities.
