Lalru, January 16
With the arrest of three persons, the Lalru police today claimed to have solved the petrol pump robbery case. The suspects had decamped with a bag containing cash after snatching it from an employee of a filling station located on Ambala-Chandigarh Highway, near Sirsini village, on January 9.
The police also recovered a country made pistol, two sharp weapons and a motorcycle from their possession. “Hunt is on to arrest the remaining suspect, who is still at large,” said the police.
Meanwhile, the arrested suspects have been identified as Hardiyal Singh, alias Dyala, and Karamvir, both residents of Sitarpur village, Lalru, and Sunny Mattu, a resident of Ambala City.
The Lalru SHO, Gurcharan Singh, said on the directions of the Mohali SSP, Kuldeep Singh Chahal, police teams were constituted to crack the case. He said the CCTV footages were of great help in tracing the suspects.
Giving details, the SHO stated that a police team stopped the three suspects, who were coming towards Lalru on a motorcycle, at a naka near Sangotha village for checking.
Based on the initial leads, the police succeeded in nabbing the suspects at the naka, the SHO added. The suspects accepted that they had looted cash from the petrol pump at Sirsini village, near Lalru, the SHO said.
“We are still interrogating the suspects to extract more leads. The suspects will be produced in the local court tomorrow. The police will procure their remand for further investigation,” the SHO added.
Three masked miscreants came at the filling station in the night on January 9. One of them then pulled out a pistol, while two others tried to snatch the bag filled with cash from the petrol pump attendant.
When the attendant resisted their move, the suspects threatened to kill him with pistol. Two other suspects then pushed the victim and fled from the spot with the bag containing cash. The robbers also attacked one of the petrol pump employees with a sharp weapon leaving him injured.
A case under relevant sections of the IPC and the Arms Act was registered against the miscreants at the Lalru police station in this connection.
