Last chance for fee defaulters to get vending licences back

Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla has announced a one-time relief measure for street vendors who have lost their vending licences due to non-payment of dues to the Municipal Corporation.

Responding to the appeals from 212 such vendors, the Mayor declared a final opportunity for defaulters to clear their dues within three months. The licences of vendors who would clear their outstanding payments within this window would be reinstated. However, failure to pay up will result in permanent cancellation of vending licences.

Babla said she believed in inclusive growth and the step ensured that small businesses got a fair chance to recover and thrive.

The Mayor emphasised that this was the final chance for defaulting vendors to settle their dues.

She said the Municipal Corporation would soon issue detailed guidelines for the payment process to ensure transparency and efficiency.

The initiative reflects the civic body’s continued commitment towards supporting livelihoods while maintaining accountability and civic order.

Encroachments removed

The Municipal Corporation today carried out an anti-encroachment drive at Sadar Bazaar and Palika Bazaar in Sector 19 to clear public spaces and ensure smooth pedestrian movement.

During the drive, enforcement teams removed temporary encroachments, including illegal extensions and roadside obstructions.

A total of 75 challans were issued to shopkeepers, vendors and persons found violating municipal norms. The operation was conducted as part of the MC’s ongoing efforts to maintain cleanliness, order and hassle-free public access in busy market areas.

V6 road in Sec 2 to be widened

The Finance and Contract Committee of the MC has approved the agenda regarding the widening of V6 road in front of house number 46 to 50, Sector 2, at an estimated cost of Rs 29.26 lakhs.

The proposal has been initiated to enhance the carriageway width and ensure smoother and safer vehicular movement for area residents.

During a meeting chaired by Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla, the committee observed that widening the stretch would significantly improve traffic flow, enhance road safety and benefit daily commuters and residents of Sector 2.
