Late centenarian athlete Man Kaur’s son dies

Succumbing to the injuries he received in an accident five months back, Gurdev Singh, son of former fastest centenarian woman athlete Man Kaur, died at the age of 85.

An international masters’ medallist athlete, Gurdev was also the coach of multiple World Masters champion athlete Man Kaur. He also trained youngsters at Punjabi University, Patiala, and used to help youngsters in following a strict diet in Chandigarh.

In February, Gurdev had started a grain-grinder factory, along with three young athletes and a helper. The grinder was specifically designed for a slow process (at a speed of 150 rpm) to preserve the natural ingredients of the wheat. And the profits from this venture were used to help athletes coming from a underprivileged background. He had also set up a juice shop at Kansal village.

According to family members, Gurdev was hit by a food delivery rider in Sector 28 on July 19 and had undergone an operation at PGI. After staying in coma for a few days at, he was discharged from the hospital and was putting at his sister’s home in Sector 40 since August. Gurdev had the honour of winning various national and international medals. He was cremated on Friday in the presence of his family members, young athletes and friends.
