A lawyer has been arrested by the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell (CCIC) of the city police for allegedly creating a fake profile of a woman, reportedly his estranged friend, on a dating app and sharing her mobile number with other persons. The accused has been identified as Mahtab Singh, a resident of New Chandigarh.

The police said the victim had filed a complaint regarding her fake profile on a dating platform. The accused had allegedly interacted with several men and shared her phone number with them.

The police registered a case and during the investigation, the accused was identified. His mobile phone has been seized by the police as part of the evidence. The police said the accused was victim’s estranged friend and wanted to take revenge by defaming her.
