To preserve heritage manhole covers and prevent these from being stolen, the Municipal Corporation is going to replace 2,000 such covers and frames with cemented ones. In the past, heritage manhole covers have been auctioned in the international market for huge amount.
“Some manholes will be used inside government buildings while some will be kept at our store. A few of these will also be showcased at a museum. This was decided during a meeting of the heritage committee,” said MC Commissioner KK Yadav.
As per the agenda prepared by the MC for the work, the necessity to replace the heritage manhole covers arose as the sewerage system of the city had a special kind of heritage CI manhole covers with frames, which were prone to theft. Such covers had been
