Members of the Coaching Centre Association of Chandigarh have requested the UT Administration to open the centres as soon as possible with Covid-19 guidelines.

Members of the association today met Education Secretary SS Gill and Higher Education Director Rubinderjit Brar and put forth their demand to issue unlock guidelines for coaching institutes so that students do not suffer anymore. However, the Education Department offered that they may continue online coaching.

Association members said all other businesses were allowed to work without any restriction, but no one paid heed to the coaching industry. “Students can go to lake, malls and gym, but not institutes to study,” they said.

The neighbouring state of Punjab has allowed IELTS and skill development classes to operate offline.

They said they had to manage their expenses of rent, staff salaries and loan EMIs. Coaching owners requested the Administration to open coaching centres as soon as possible. — TNS
