Local Government Department to hear objections on Nov 20

The Local Government Department will take up suggestions/objections on draft notification of new the Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) limits at its Sector 35 office on November 20.

The deadline to give suggestions/objections was extended from November 6 to November 8 after draft notification was issued on October 21.

According to the draft notification, the civic body could see a 100 per cent increase in its budget and the area under its jurisdiction, and around 50 per cent jump in population with Aerocity, IT City and almost all developed sectors coming under it. Sources said 12 new sectors are likely to be added to the MC area, which would nearly double its existing jurisdiction.

However, residents of TDI City, Kambali, Balongi, Badhmajra, Baliyali and several other villages have expressed serious resentment over the exclusion of their villages from the draft notification.

“Several individuals, resident welfare associations (RWAs) and institutions have submitted their objections over their exclusion from the draft notification,” sources said, adding that they would be present during the hearing.

More than 42 objections were received by the Local Government Department. Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh said, “The government will consider all suggestions and objections sympathetically for the betterment of residents.”

Officials said the final notification could be issued as early as this month-end.
