Residents of Phase 2 and 3A are up in arms against Municipal Corporation Mohali’s decision to install a garbage compressor machine at the Phase 2/3A lights point. A memorandum regarding this was given to the MC Commissioner and Mayor by Avtar Singh Walia, social workers, and senior residents of the area. They said the area residents were already battling with the problem of foul smells, flies, and mosquitoes, and the installation of the machine would further aggravate the situation.

They said the road was one of the major roads connecting Mohali with Chandigarh, calling it the ‘Gateway of Punjab’, and this decision of installing the compressor would destroy it. The MC Commissioner and Mayor agreed to the residents’ demands and assured them the machine would not be installed there and the area will be cleaned in a week.
