Members of the Punjab Mahila Congress from across the state today staged a massive demonstration against the Aam Aadmi Party government for not fulfilling its poll promise to provide Rs 1,000 monthly cash assistance to every woman. The protest was led by its president Gursharan Kaur Randhawa.

Senior party leaders, including Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Congress Legislative Party leader Partap Singh Bajwa, Congress general secretary in-charge Rajasthan Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and several other party legislators were also present at the dharna.

Addressing the protesters, Warring asserted that the Congress would not let AAP forget its promise to pay women Rs 1,000 every month. He said 36 months have passed since AAP came to power in the state but the government was yet to provide cash assistance to women. This was clear cheating with the women of Punjab. Not only will the Congress force the AAP government to pay women Rs 1,000 per month but it will also seek Rs 36,000 arrears for every woman, he added.
