The UT Sports Department will organise the first “Chandigarh Marathon” on November 2 and the winners of the full marathon (42.195 km) will be awarded Rs 10 lakh each.

This is the highest ever prize money event ever organised by the department though it has been organising the All India Administrator’s Challenge Football Tournament, offering Rs 3 lakh, Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh prize money to the top three finishers, respectively.

The registrations for the Chandigarh Marathon has been opened at https://chdmarathon.chd.gov.in. The events to be organised are full marathon, half marathon (21.097 km), fitness gauge run (10 km) and 5 km fun run/family run. The marathon will be conducted in both men and women categories. The entry fee for full marathon is Rs 2,000, half marathon Rs 1,500, fitness gauge run Rs 1,000 and 5 km run Rs 500.

The winners under both categories of full marathon will be awarded Rs 10 lakh each. The second position holders will get Rs 8 lakh each followed by Rs 6 lakh each for those finishing third.

The half marathon winners of both categories will bag Rs 5 lakh each, followed by the second finishers Rs 4 lakh each and third position holders Rs 3 lakh each.

The winners of the 10 km event will get Rs 2 lakh each. The second position holders will get Rs 1.5 lakh each and those finishing third will be awarded Rs 1.25 lakh each. Besides, those finishing fourth will get Rs 1 lakh each, fifth Rs 75,000 each, sixth Rs 50,000 each, seventh Rs 35,000 each, eighth Rs 25,000 each, ninth Rs 15,000 each and 10th Rs 10,000 each.

Position holders will also be awarded medals and certificates, including those of the 5 km run.

The full marathon must be completed within seven hours. The top three finishers in competitive events will be ranked based on their run time. The route of all competitive races will cover Sukhna Lake, Leisure Valley, Rose Garden, Rock Garden, Sector 17 Plaza and Capitol Complex. The department will also host a Chandigarh Marathon Expo at Chandigarh Club from October 31 to November 1 (10 am to 5 pm).

Age criteria

Those born on or before November 2, 2007 (18 years and above), will be eligible for full and half marathons, while those born on or before November 2, 2010 (15 years and above) will be eligible for the 10 km event. The 5 km run is open for all age groups.
