A major fire broke out at "Sekhon Palace" on the Zirakpur-Panchkula and spread to the adjoining "Aura Garden" around 11 pm on Sunday. “Pandals” (wedding set-up) erected at both palaces were destroyed in the fire.
A wedding was going on in one of the halls. However, no loss of life was reported as people were evacuated in time.
Eight fire tenders from Zirakpur, Panchkula and Mohali were rushed to the spot as flames engulfed the “pandals” at both places. As onlookers stopped at the spot, there was traffic chaos on the highway.
A short-circuit was believed to have caused the fire. However, the exact cause was yet to be ascertained.
Zirakpur Additional Superintendent of Police Ghazalpreet Kaur said no casualty had been reported in the accident. It was found adequate fire safety measures were not taken at the marriage palaces. An investigation into the incident would be carried out by the department concerned, she added.
