Make Chandigarh a centre of excellence in policing, security: Satnam Sandhu

Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu today pressed for making Chandigarh a centre of excellence in policing and security on the lines of world-class cities such as Singapore, Tokyo and Dubai, which have the most advanced system.

“We should focus on employing advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, facial and voice recognition used in the advanced countries for improving law and order and curb the crime rate in the city,” said the MP while chairing the first meeting of the UT Administrator’s Advisory Council’s standing committee on law and order here on Friday. SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, former Mayor Kuldeep Kumar and Chandigarh Hotel-Restaurant Association chairman Manmohan Singh attended the meeting to review law and order in the city.

Expressing concern over growing cybercrimes, the Rajya Sabha MP said, “India ranks 10th globally in cybercrimes. There is a need for special attention to curb cybercrimes as a people, especially senior citizens, are falling prey to it.”

He asked the Chandigarh Police to take stern measures to prevent drug menace in the city by paying special attention to public parks frequented by drug addicts.

The Rajya Sabha MP also advised the Chandigarh Police to check begging at traffic lights, make all beat boxes operational and enhance night patrolling for checking crimes.

The MP also pressed the need of giving due priority to Punjabi language in the signboards in Chandigarh.
