Chandigarh, July 18
Satya Pal Jain, former BJP MP and Additional Solicitor-General of India, has said time has come when in addition to English, Hindi and Punjabi should be made the official languages of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the subordinate judiciary.
He said as a matter of fact, in all High Courts, the regional languages of that areas should also be official languages.
Jain was speaking as a chief guest at the inaugural function of Chandigarh Law College at Jhanjheri village near Chandigarh yesterday.
He said poor litigants would be able to put up their cases and make submissions in their respective mother tongue or regional language, rather than in English.
Jain said he was not opposed to English as a court language which might be allowed to continue, but the sentiments and point of view could be expressed by a common man in his mother tongue and regional language more effectively than in any other language.
