Man awarded 10-year RI in NDPS case

Was arrested with 11 buprenormorphine injections of 2 ml each

A local court has sentenced a 25-year-old resident of Sector 56 here to 10-year rigorous imprisonment in an NDPS case registered five years ago. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict, Kishan.

The police arrested the accused on January 16, 2020, with 11 injections of buprenormorphine of 2 ml each, which fall under commercial quantity. After completing the investigation, the police filed a challan against the accused.

Finding a prima facie case, the court framed charges under Section 22 of the NDPS Act, to which the accused pleaded not guilty and claimed a trial.

After hearing the arguments, the court sentenced the accused to 10-year rigorous imprisonment, while rejecting his plea for leniency.

The court said the narcotics are spoiling the future of the youth of the country and harming every fabric of society. The menace of drug trafficking has attained alarming proportions, posing a great threat to the nation, the court observed.
