Man awarded 20-year jail for raping minor

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 70,000 on the convict.

A local court has sentenced a person to undergo 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a POCSO case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 70,000 on the convict.

A case was registered against the accused on the complaint of the victim’s mother on August 14, 2023. She alleged that the accused took her 12-year-old daughter near Dhanas lake and raped her.

After hearing of the arguments, the court held the accused guilty and awarded 20-year jail. The court also recommended to the District Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh, to pay Rs 4 lakh under the Victim Compensation Scheme.
