Chandigarh: A man has been booked for quarrelling with a lady doctor at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32. The police said the suspect, Rajeev Kumar, alias Raman (35), a Punjab resident, allegedly assaulted the doctor following a fight with her on the night intervening February 10 and 11. A case under Sections 332 and 353 of the IPC has been registered against the suspect at the Sector 34 police station. TNS
Woman’s gold chain snatched
Chandigarh: A motorcycle-borne miscreant reportedly snatched a gold chain from a woman. The complainant, a resident of Sector 46, reported that the biker snatched her chain from near a government school near her house. A case has been registered at the Sector 34 police station. TNS
PGI staff ‘violate’ DM’s order
Chandigarh: The UT police have booked the president and members of the PGI Employees’ Union for violating orders of the District Magistrate. The police said the union members had gathered for a protest near Nehru Hospital on the PGI campus on Tuesday. A case under Section 188 of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 11 police station.
Cricket Bash Academy log win
Chandigarh: In the ongoing DP Azad Memorial Cricket Tournament, Cricket Bash Academy defeated Professional Cricket Academy by 153 runs. Batting first, CBA lads posted 316/4 in 40 overs with Sourish Sanwal (99 off 57 balls), Arjun Rajput (87 of 66 balls) and Raghav Verma (48 off 31 balls) scoring majority of the runs. In reply, Professional Academy bundled out for 163. Ritvick Verma (45) was the top scorer for the side. Jai, Vasu Kaushal, Arjun Rajput and Harsh Kashyap claimed two wickets each. Chandigarh: Hosts Saupin’s School, Sector 32, win two matches during the opening day of the 2nd J Saupin Memorial League Basketball Tournament. The Sector 32 team logged 18-7 win over St Soldier School, Panchkula, and 6-2 win over New Public School, Sector 18. Vivek School Mohali defeated Saupin’s Mohali 14-4, while St Soldier’s School faced 7-21 defeat against Learning Paths School. Mohali: Royal Cricket Academy (RCA) defeated Cricket Academy of Narwal (CAN), Karnal by six wickets, during the opening match of the RP Singh Memorial Women’s Cricket Tournament. Batting first, the Karnal outfit posted 146 with the help of Tripti Maan (30), Ritika Sharma (22), Mahak Banwala (20), Vidushi (13) and Tanvi Nehra (11). Ifshita Thakur claimed three wickets, while Shruti Tiwari and Nikita claimed two wickets. Harleen Kaur claimed one for the bowling side. Scholarship released
Chandigarh: The Sports Department has sanctioned Rs 8473,500 for disbursement as scholarship among 2,485 players who won medals in various sports competitions in the 2022-23 season. The players have won gold, silver and bronze medals in school-level competitions. Director sports has given instructions to release the scholarship amount directly into the players’ accounts. TNS
