Man caught with banned drugs in Chandigarh gets 10-year RI
A special court has sentenced a man who had in 2018 been arrested with banned drugs to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
The accused, Anil Kumar, had been booked on June 21, 2018, after the police arrested him with 25 2-ml injections of the banned Buprenorphine and 25 10-ml injections of Pheniramine Maleate without any licence or permit.
After investigation charge sheet against the accused was presented before the special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act court.
The counsel of the accused argued that he had been falsely implicated in the case.
After hearing the arguments, however, the court convicted the accused for the offences punishable under section 22 of the NDPS Act and sentenced him to undergo 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict.
