Man, daughter die as truck hits bike
Incident took place near Chhat light point on Zirakpur-Patiala road
A father-daughter duo died after the bike they were riding was hit by a speeding truck at the Chhat light point on the Zirakpur-Patiala highway today.
The deceased were identified as Ramesh Chand, 40, and Sumita, 24, an MBA student, both residents of Vasant Vihar in Dera Bassi.
Complainant Chamel Singh, a resident of Ram Darbar, stated that the man was going to drop his daughter at a private college in Banur when a speeding UP-registered truck hit their bike from behind while they were taking a turn towards Banur village at Chhat light point — a designated black spot with fatal mishaps taking place frequently.
After the incident, the truck driver fled the spot. The injured victims were rushed to the Dera Bassi subdivisional hospital where they were declared dead.
In another road mishap, Sanoli resident Ramsharan (25) died after the bike he was riding hit an electricity pole in Dhakoli. He was taken to the Dera Bassi subdivisional hospital where doctors declared him dead.
