Man drives away with truck from railway godown
Chandigarh, January 17
A seven-member team of the GRP recovered a truck worth Rs19 lakh that was stolen from the goods warehouse of the Chandigarh railway station on January 13 and arrested a man, identified as Yashim (35). The suspect, who was a truck driver, lost his job during the pandemic.

“The truck was stolen from the ‘maal godown’ (goods warehouse) on the night of January 13 here. The truck driver, who reached the city station from Shimla for loading goods, had stepped down and went to Mani Majra for a brief while. On returning, he saw that the truck was missing,” said Valiyati Saini, SHO, GRP, Chandigarh railway station.
With the assistance of the GRP’s cyber cell and the CCTV footage, the GRP team traced the truck to Paonta Sahib.
“On January 14, with the help of security cameras and the cyber cell, we were able to trace the truck to Paonta Sahib. The suspect, identified as Yashim, was arrested today and presented before the District Courts here. He’s being tried under Section 379 of the IPC,” Saini said.
Saini said Yashim was a resident of Rohru and a truck driver too. “He lost his job during the pandemic. Before this, he worked for private companies that owned and ran trucks. He’s a first-time offender, but we are still checking his background,” he said.
