Panchkula, February 15
A Khudda Lahora, Chandigarh, resident was duped of around Rs 19 lakh by three conmen, who had offered to get him and his wife government employment.
The main complainant, Arjun Kumar Pandey, accused Kiranbir Singh Kang, Jatinder Singh and Parminder Singh of cheating him and his friends.
Pandey, who works at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, said he used to visit a friend in Panchkula’s Sector 20, where he came in contact with Jatinder and Parminder in January 2023. They two claimed they worked for Kiranbir Singh Kang and offered to help him get a government job, in exchange of a ‘fee’. Pandey then provided them self-attested documents for his appointment.
He said, “I gave them Rs 8 lakh in March 2023, in cash and through online mode. They also collected relevant documents and money amounting to Rs 14.50 lakh to get me and my wife employed.”
He claimed that when he pressured the trio regarding being appointed in a government department, the suspects provided him fake joining letters.
He said he went to see Kang at his office, where the suspects entered into a scuffle with him and snatched his vehicle’s documents.
The Panchkula police now registered a case against Kang, Jatinder Singh and Parminder Singh under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of a valuable security), 468 (forgery intended to cheat), 471 (fraudulent use of a forged document or electronic record as genuine), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120-B (party to a criminal conspiracy to commit an offence punishable with death) of the IPC.
