Man facing 36 cases of theft, robbery, snatching nabbed

The police have arrested accused Gaurav, alias Chinu (30), a resident of Dadu Majra, near Dronacharya Stadium, who was involved in 36 cases of snatching, theft and robbery.

ASI Yashpal Singh nabbed him with a stolen bike at the fish market, Dadu Majra Colony. The bike had a fake registration number plate. He was produced before the court and sent to one-day police remand.

A case under Sections 471, 473 and 411 of the IPC and another case under Section 379A of the IPC were registered at the Sector 17 police station in Chandigarh on February 16.

In another case, the police arrested a resident of Ferozepur, Sandeep Kumar, alias Lovepreet (27), and recovered five stolen motorcycles from him. Three bikes were stolen from area under the Sector 39 police station and one from Sector 11 police station area.

Complainant Sonu, a resident of Dhanas, reported the theft of a motor cycle from near the Balmiki temple, Sector 24, on October 28, 2023. A case of theft was registered. The accused was produced before the court and sent to judicial custody.

The police had received information that a boy, who had stolen the motor cycle from Sector 24, was looking for customers at Sarangpur. The police acted swiftly and apprehended Sandeep near the Dhanas light point with the stolen motorcycle without number plate. During his police remand, he disclosed that he had stolen five or six vehicles from separate areas of Chandigarh and vicinity.

More motorcycles were recovered on the basis of the disclosures made by him. The accused was previously arrested in a vehicle theft case on November 2 last year.

He is a taxi driver. He would identify his target in daytime and stole it using a duplicate key during the night. He would remove the number plate and rode to his native village of Ferozepur.

One of his associates, Rohit Kamboj, was earlier arrested by the Crime Branch and three bikes were recovered from him.
