Man gets 10-year jail for raping sex worker

A local court has sentenced Rahul Bansal, a resident of Ram Darbar, to 10-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a sex worker.

The police had registered a case under Sections 376, 342 and 323 of the IPC on April 23, 2023, on the complaint of a woman, who claimed to be a call girl.

She had said on April 18, 2023, she reached Piccadilly Chowk, Sector 34. While strolling, a person sitting in a vehicle signalled her and she went along with him. A deal was struck for Rs 4,000. The accused made physical relations with her. When she asked for money, he beat him up.

The accused again made relations with the complainant in the presence of his wife without her consent. He beat her up and locked her up in a room.

Two days later, he dropped the complainant near a temple in Sector 44, Chandigarh. The complainant reached a dispensary in Sector 45. A charge sheet was filed against the accused in the court. The accused pleaded not guilty and claimed trial. After hearing arguments, the court sentenced him to 10-year RI and imposed a fine of Rs 37,000.
