Man gets 10-yr jail for carrying banned vials

The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge today awarded 10-year imprisonment to a local resident for carrying banned injections and smack.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict identified as Jeewan, alias Rimpy (35), a resident of Sector 40-A, Chandigarh.
According to the prosecution, an FIR under the NDPS Act was registered against Jeewan at the Sector 39 police station in August 2017.
He was caught with 10.2-gm smack and 22 banned injections – 11 injections of Buprenorphine and 11 injections of Pheniramine.
In the FIR, it was stated that a police team was on patrolling duty and as they reached near Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 56, they saw a man coming from the direction of a nearby petrol pump. However, on seeing the police, he turned and started walking swiftly in the opposite direction.
On suspicion, the police stopped him and recovered banned injections and smack from him. As he could not produce any valid licence or permit, the police arrested him under the NDPS Act.
