A resident of Uttar Pradesh has been arrested by the Chandigarh Police for creating a fake Facebook profile of SSP Kanwardeep Kaur and demanding money from people.
Constable Pardeep Kumar, posted at the Cyber Cell police station, came across the fake profile on the social media site. It was alleged that the individual behind the account was soliciting money on the pretext of helping an orphan child.
A case was registered and the accused, identified as Ravi Kumar, a resident of Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested from his hometown.
During interrogation, Ravi Kumar admitted to creating fake profiles of IAS and IPS officers on social media platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn. He used these fake accounts to request money or donations, claiming it were for helping those in need.
The police said the accused had a history of cybercrime, with four cases registered against him in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Two mobile phones used in the fraudulent activities were also recovered from him. He will be produced in the court on Wednesday.
