Man held for impersonating police officers on social media

Made fake profiles of DCP, SSP-rank officers

The police’s cybercrime cell arrested a man for allegedly creating fake social media profiles impersonating senior police officers, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Panchkula Himadri Kaushik.

The arrest came following a complaint filed on January 24, 2025, regarding the creation of fraudulent profiles to solicit donations for sick children.

The accused, who has since been identified as Ravi Singh from Kauhandor village, Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested after an investigation led by the cybercrime police station in-charge Munish Kumar.

According to the information, Singh had been using fake accounts to deceive the public and ask for money under false pretenses. In addition to impersonating DCP Panchkula, Singh had previously created fake profiles of Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur and Himachal Mandi Superintendent of Police (SP) Sakshi Verma.

The investigation revealed that Singh had five cases registered against him, including two for creating fake profiles.

The acccused was presented before a court and sent to judicial custody.
