Five booked for rioting
Mohali: The police have booked Chanalon (Kurali) resident Ravinder Singh and five unknown persons for rioting with an attempt to loot Harjinder Singh, a resident of Sottal village in Rupnagar, near Padiala bypass, at 10:30 pm on January 10. The complainant stated that five unknown persons waylaid him by stopping a truck in front of his car near the Padiala bypass. The assailants thrashed him, but when he raised an alarm the suspects fled towards the Kurali side. A case had been registered at the Kurali city police station. TNS
Driver booked for hit-&-run
Mohali: The police have registered a case against unknown car driver for hitting a biker Sukhvir Singh, a resident of the Badala road in Kharar, near a filling station at Chappar Chiri, on December10, 2023. The complainant was injured in the accident. Later, he was admitted to the PGI, Chandigarh, for treatment. TNS
Diya lighting ceremony at mall
Mohali: The CP67 Mall organised a grand diya lighting ceremony which coincided with Ram Mandir consecration in Ayodhya. A four-feet-high diya adorned the mall entrance. The event also featured recital of bhajans by the ISKCON group from New Delhi. TNS
City judoka kapil bags bronze
Chandigarh: A 16-year-old local judoka, Kapil Damai (student of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 21), claimed the bronze medal on the second day of the 6th Khelo India Youth Games 2023–24. Damai secured third place in the 60 kg category. He won the first bout against Suraj of Manipur, followed by a win over Prashant of Chhattisgarh. He lost his next match against Haryana’s Lucky, and for the bronze medal match, he defeated Deva of Tamil Nadu by Ippon (knockout). TNS
Snehalaya girls win medals
Chandigarh: Athletes from Snehalaya for Girls, Sector 15, won medals at the Chandigarh North District Athletics Championship at the Sector 7 Sports Complex. Radha secured a gold medal, while Aratrika Bhatt, Babita, and Ishika claimed a silver medal each. Ekam, Pari, Pooja, and Binny won a bronze medal each in their respective events. TNS
PRCI to hold key seminar in March
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh chapter of the Public Relations Council of India (PRCI) and the Media Federation of India are going to organise a special seminar and its fifth annual awards ceremony in the month of March. A meeting of the executive committee of the PRCI (Chandigarh chapter) was held on Monday at the UT guesthouse. The chairman of the Chandigarh chapter, Rupesh Singh, presided over the meeting, which was attended by office-bearers of the body.
