A resident of Dera Bassi was allegedly murdered by his friend while he was reportedly trying to mediate between the latter’s fight with his wife at their Sector 20 residence here. The victim was identified as Jagtar Singh Bobby.

His brother Kuldeep Singh said Bobby had gone to his friend Arvind Kumar’s house on Sunday. Later, his family received a call that Bobby had entered into an altercation with Kumar and had sustained injuries, he claimed.

Bobby was taken to Government Hospital, Sector 6, where doctors declared him brought dead. Sub-Inspector Mankeet Singh from Sector 20 police station said as per preliminary probe, Kumar was quarrelling with his wife, when Bobby, who was present at their house, tried to intervene, but he was hit on the head with a hammer. Arvind has been booked under Section 302 of the IPC.
