Mohali: Four unidentified persons robbed a Shimla resident of his car near the Dera Bassi flyover on Wednesday night. In his complaint to the police, Abhishek Sharma stated that he came to Zirakpur for some work. As he got down from his car to relieve himself near the flyover around 9.45 pm, four persons reached there in a four-wheeler. Three of them asked him to hand over the car keys at gunpoint. As he tried to resist, they fired into the air before fleeing with the car. TNS 

Missing man’s body found

Chandigarh: The body of a 32-year-old Kajheri resident, who had gone missing on August 8, was found in a canal near Patiala. The UT police were informed about the incident and the body was brought to Chandigarh on Thursday. The victim has been identified as Sumit Sharma. The police said the victim’s family had lodged a missing complaint after he had gone missing. The police have started a probe. TNS

Sevak Samaj opens tailoring centre

Ropar: The Bharat Sevak Samaj has opened a tailoring centre for needy women and girls at Guru Ravidas Dharamshala on the occasion of its foundation day here on Thursday. Ropar Municipal Council president Sanjay Verma inaugurated the centre. He lauded the efforts of the district unit of the Bharat Sevak Samaj. Bharat Sevak Samaj Ropar district unit chairman Bahadurjeet Singh highlighted the social welfare activities being undertaken by the organisation, which was founded by the first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, as a non-political organisation through the planning commission. Chandigarh: The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has announced to conduct a match between Rest of Punjab against the winner of the Inter-District Tournament on the lines of the Irani Trophy for cricket season 2021-22 on August 13. The Kapurthala district senior team, being the winner of the Inter-District Senior T20 Tournament, will play against the star-studded Rest of Punjab team.
