Mohali: Man stabbed to death on Balongi street

A 35-year-old youth was stabbed to death in full public view near a medical store in Balongi around 9:30 am today.

Sarabjit Singh, who worked as a security guard, and his friend were attacked by three youths living in a paying guest accommodation. Sarabjit sustained multiple stab injuries and was rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

His friend saved his life by fleeing the spot. By the time the police reached the spot, the three assailants had fled the scene.

The police began an investigation and scanned the CCTV footage of the area. Balongi SHO Kulwant Singh said, “The police have identified the assailants and they will be arrested soon. A case has been registered.”

The incident is yet another pointer to mushrooming paying guests, often illegal, in the area where anti-social elements take refuge without furnishing their antecedants.

Despite running tenant-verification drives in the past years, the police have not been able to take comprehensive action against the violators.
