Man wanted in murder bids held

Panchkula, February 19

The detective staff of the Panchkula Police today arrested a man wanted in a case of ransom in Raipur Rani and two cases of attempt to murder registered in Mohali, Punjab. The police recovered two illegal country-made pistols along with cartridges from his possession.

The arrested suspect, was identified as Rajiv Kumar, a resident of Raipur Rani village in Panchkula.

Arvind Kamboj, ACP, Crime, said a police party on patrol duty in Raipur Rani received a tip-off about Rajiv Kumar’s presence in the area. The police party apprehended Rajiv and recovered two country-made pistols along with cartridges from his possession. A case under the Arms Act was registered against the suspect at the Chandimandir police station. The suspect was presented in a local court which sent him to four-day police remand.

Nirmal Singh, Inspector, detective staff, said Rajiv Kumar attempted to kill Ishtaq Khan, a resident of Raumajra village, at the mining office in Ambala for ransom. A case was then registered against him for attempt to murder at the Raipur Rani police station in May 2022. The police said he was wanted in two other cases of attempt to murder registered at the Balongi police station in Mohali.
