The annual ranking evaluates police stations across India based on predefined parameters and teams of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) visit police stations to assess their performance.

The parameters include public dealing, cleanliness, investigation and disposal of cases, community policing and public satisfaction levels. “A secret report about the police station personnel is also compiled, which is considered during the ranking exercise,” said a police official. The rankings were released by the Home Minister during DGP/IGP Conference 2024. The Chandigarh Police have recently received official communication from the Centre regarding the achievement.
