Chandigarh, February 19
Mayor Sarabjit Kaur is yet to form road, house tax assessment and water supply and sewerage disposal committees.
The panels are generally constituted in January every year. Its members are to be announced by the Mayor. The three panels have financial powers and agendas approved by them for a certain maximum amount can directly be implemented. There is no need to take such agendas to House meetings.
These are the most important committees after the Finance and Contract Committee of the corporation. Since there are AAP and Congress councillors as well this time, the Mayor, who is from the BJP, might find it difficult to announce the names.
The Mayor, however, reasoned that they were waiting for the list of nominated councillors to be announced by the UT Administrator. “The members of the panel will also comprise nominated councillors. When their names will be cleared, we will form the committees,” said Sarabjit.
The panels are formed for a period of one year. Besides clearing development agendas, the panels also give issue-based recommendations for the House to consider. —
