Mayoral poll: Parties yet to announce candidates

Less than a week is left for the Mayoral elections, but neither the BJP nor the AAP-Congress alliance have announced their candidates for the posts of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor. January 20 is the last date to submit nominations.

While the name of Harpreet Kaur Babla is in discussion for the post of Mayor from the BJP, six councillors from AAP have staked claim to the post.

According to the alliance, the Congress will field candidates for the posts of Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor, while AAP will contest the Mayor seat.

Sources said a few Congress councillors had opposed the proposed candidature of certain councillors for the post of Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Denying the allegations, Chandigarh Congress president HS Lucky said they were yet to finalise the candidates and the names would be finalised after reaching a consensus. The final decision will be taken on Monday after the hearing in case relating to the mayoral poll in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday.
