Chandigarh MC cash crunch: This time, no Fire Dept tableau in city

Facing a shortage of funds, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has decided not to showcase the tableau of the Fire Department in the Republic Day Parade here.

Based on various fire safety measures, the tableau of the Fire Department was an annual feature of the parades on Independence Day and Republic Day. The authorities have decided not to take part in the Republic Day parade this year, as the tableau would cost nearly Rs 2 lakh.

A senior officer said this time, they will have only one tableau on the theme of Swachh Bharat Mission.

A fire official said it would be the first time that the Fire Department tableau would not take part in the Republic Day function. The tableau of the department has been adjudged the best unit twice in the past five years.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
