MC gives 3-month extension to firm engaged in sanitation work
To continue with manual, mechanised sweeping in southern sectors till Dec 31
The General House of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has approved a three-month extension to the existing contract of GIS-based mechanised and manual sweeping in southern sectors of the city.
The company, Lion Services Ltd, is providing sanitation services in Sectors 31 to 50, 61, and 63.
Earlier, the House had extended the contract till September 30. The officers said tender for the sanitation work had been floated on the Gel portal. However, it will take time to finalise the tender and allotment of work. To ensure uninterrupted sanitation services the southern sectors, an agenda was placed before the General House seeking its approval as to extend the existing contract with Lion Services Ltd for three months up to December 31 or till the allotment of the new tender, whichever is earlier, on existing terms and conditions along with advance payment of wages.
An agenda for revising zoning in respect housing project in pocket 6, NAC, Manimajra, was also approved. The plan will be sent to the UT Architecture Department. Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla has also announced to form a committee on the project. Facing a financial crisis, the MC is planning to auction the plots for generating a revenue of over Rs 800 crore.
Meanwhile, the House rejected the agenda presented by the AAP and Congress councillors for cancelling the 24x7 water project for whole city for which the administration had signed a memorandum of understanding with French agency in 2016. The French agency had agreed to support projects in water supply, sanitation and waste management.
The House has also approved the agenda for fixing the rates for NGOs for carrying out immersion of mortal remains of unclaimed bodies.
An agenda item thanking the Prime Minister for the GST reforms was also passed by the House. A proposal for giving sewerage and water connections to residents of 23 villages was approved. The House also approved agenda to appoint an agency for technical assistance in roads projects.
A controversy erupted outside the House when security men stopped former councillor Chandra Mukhi Sharma from entering the gallery of visitors despite having a valid pass.
