Chandigarh MC House meet today, nod to terms for Manimajra housing project land likely

The General House of the Municipal Corporation is likely to approve the terms and conditions for auctioning over 7.5 acres for a housing society in pocket No. 6 at Manimajra. An agenda regarding the detailed terms and conditions will be tabled for approval in the MC House meeting scheduled for June 30.

Multi-storey flats will be constructed at the site, which will also solve the housing problem of the city. The auction of the project is likely to generate over Rs 700 crore in the form of revenue for the cash-starved MC. The civic is presently facing its worst financial crisis as it has no funds for development.

Over 7.5 acres in five chunks will be auctioned under the project. The reserve price, ranging from Rs 125 crore to Rs 217 crore, depends on the size of the land. E-auction of residential properties will be held on freehold basis. The builder will have to complete the project in three years.

In 2005, the civic body had sold a residential site of 5.39 acre in Manimajra for a housing society on a freehold basis for Rs 108 crores.

Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla said the auction would help the MC overcome financial crisis.

The House is also likely to approve the agenda of setting up a plant to scientifically process horticultural waste. The plant will have a capacity to process 60 tonnes of waste per day.

Meanwhile, Congress and AAP councillors held separate pre-House meetings today in which they discussed issues on which they can corner the ruling party. BJP councillors also held meetings at the party office to discuss the plan to counter the Opposition councillors.

HS Lucky, president, Chandigarh Congress, said all councillors of his party would raise the issues of public interest like bad conditions of roads. They would also not allow to increase the booking rates of the community centres, he added.

Yogesh Dhingra, an AAP councillor, said they would once again raise the alleged multi-crore scam in the name of free booking of community centres. He said councillors had also decided to oppose any increase in the booking rates of community centres.
