MC teams remove encroachments from Mohali market
The Municipal Corporation removed several encroachments from the Phase 3B2 market on Saturday night.
The enforcement wing of the civic body acted tough on unauthorised vendors encroaching on market corridors, parking lots and open spaces in the market. A team of the civic body officials seized furniture, stalls, and food items of the vendors illegally occupying the market area.
The move comes after repeated complaints of grievances by the shop owners who rue the loss of their business due to these vendors. Several makeshift eateries have come up in the market and cooked food items and snacks are being sold in unhygienic conditions, they complained.
“Unauthorised street vendors are eating away our business as they sale fake and cheap items with no check on them,” said a Phase 3B2 readymade garment shop owner.
Importantly, the vendors give a shabby look to the market and litter on parking lots, corridors without paying MC charges, another shopkeeper complained.
Vendors, on the other hand, alleged that MC action is biased as only they are being targeted while the encroachments by shopkeepers are being ignored completely.
Meanwhile, civic body officials said the action against illegal encroachments in main markets of the city will continue in the future.
