Chandigarh, March 5
A day after the MC General House approved to terminate the contract with the waste processing plant run by Jaypee, the MC commissioner today issued a termination notice on the company.
The corporation, in its notice to the firm, stated the plant is processing only about 120 metric tonne of waste per day while the city generates 470 metric tonne of garbage. The plant has not been working to its optimum capacity.
The MC asked the plant authorities to hand over the plant in a week. It also added if the plant is not handed over in the said period, then the corporation will itself take over the possession of the plant.
The MC will run the plant on its own or through a third party. It will invite an expression of interest, following which a firm or one or two experts will help the MC run the plant.
It will also seek report on technical aspects from the PEC or the IIT, Roorkee, or the IIT, Delhi. The report will ascertain the present condition of the plant and its scope in the future.
