Residents of Sector 4 MDC, Panchkula, are perturbed over Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran’s (HSVP) decision to charge them subscription fee for Shivalik Country Club for the period of its closure for renovation. They have also expressed resentment over the sorry condition of roads, lifting of garbage and others on part of Municipal Corporation Panchkula in the area.

The residents’ welfare association of Sector-4 MDC, Panchkulam here stated the HSVP had shut the Shivalik Country Club in the name of renovation in May 2021. They said, “Recently they sent us a communication stating that the club was resuming functioning as before and directed us to submit the subscription fees of the period we did not access it at all.”

Captain Gulshan Satija of the club said they then sent representations to HSVP against charging of subscription fee for the said time-period. He said, “We wrote to them against demanding fee for the tenure that the club was shut for renovation. We did not access it, rather they hosted programmes and earned money during this time. The club was closed from May 2021 till August. They have failed to respond to our concerns.”

The monthly subscription fee is Rs 700 per member.

The residents have now written to the HSVP requesting it to reconsider its decision to collect subscription fee for the period the club remained closed.

He said the area residents, including senior and retired government officials, are also dismayed at the lack of cleanliness and bad condition of roads in Sector-4 MDC area. He said, “We have written to the Panchkula MC regarding the condition of roads as well, but to no avail. A road in the area has caved-in. Moreover, the garbage is not lifted from our area on a regular basis. We are faced with such ordeal, but the MC officials do not pay a heed to our complaints.”
