Eighty faculty members of the Government Medical and Dental Colleges were honoured with Covid-19 pandemic warrior awards by the Punjab State Medical and Dental Teachers Association (PSMDTA) here today. Dr Ratan Lal Mittal, who was awarded Padam Shri this year, was the chief guest on the occasion. He distributed award certificates among the faculty.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mittal shared his lifelong work and success stories in the field and appreciated the contribution of medical professionals in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

“Due to vast research and work in clubfoot correctional surgeries, Patiala has come on the world map in this field. The younger generation should carry forward the legacy by starting research work in medical college,” said Dr Mittal.

Dr Vijay Bodal, acting state president, PSMDTA, said, “The faculty members, who have been awarded, represent all doctors and other paramedical staff members of Rajindra Hospital. They worked day and night for more than 10 months during the Covid-19 pandemic without caring for their own lives and families.”

The association has also demanded that the Department of Medical Education and Research should honour all doctors in the health and police departments, who have worked during the pandemic.

The department even cancelled the summer and winter vacation of medical and dental teachers during the pandemic, but failed to recognise their services during the pandemic, said association leaders.
