Underdeveloped areas of Mani Majra have finally caught officials’ attention with the Municipal Corporation proposing to set up a science museum, banquet hall, convention centre, speciality hospital, multi-level parking and an amusement park in the area.

The civic body has approved the sites for these projects and sent the proposal to the Chief Architect for approval. “We have sent the proposal and the administration will take a final call on it,” confirmed MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra.

According to officials, an amusement park would be set up on the lines of Fun City at the Tibetan Market ground, near the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) light point. It has been proposed to be built on 12 acres alongside the Chandigarh-Kalka highway.

A banquet hall on 4 acres in the same location has also been planned. A speciality hospital and a science museum have been proposed for the area on the back of the Solitaire hotel.

“The broader plan is to develop the vacant land on the Chandigarh-Kalka highway by carrying out these projects,” said an official.

Besides, a multi-level parking has proposed in the “abadi” area of Mani Majra. If materialised, it will be in addition to the one coming up at Rana ki Haveli. A convention centre has been earmarked on 18 acres in Pipliwala Town here.

According to information, UT Adviser Dharam Pal, during a meeting, had asked the MC to explore its vacant land in Mani Majra for development. Officials of the civic body informed him that the areas had not been developed due to several pending litigations. The Adviser directed the officials to plan projects for the sites which did not have any litigation pending. Following his directions, the MC conducted a survey and prepared the proposal for the projects.
