Meghalaya hit back after Jagjit heroics

Chandigarh, December 20

After the first day’s play was lost due to wet outfield and bad light, Chandigarh attack led by Jagjit Singh Sandhu bundled out Meghalaya for 119 runs in the first innings on the second day of their Col CK Nayudu Trophy match at Mahajan Cricket Ground here.

Jagjit along with Ronit Dhawan reduced the visitors to 10/4 inside eight overs after Meghalaya skipper Raghav Kapur opted to bat.

Tiwari and Aditya Verma added 31 runs for the fifth wicket before Jagjit removed the latter to claim his third wicket of the day. Verma faced 15 balls for his 14.

With half of their side back in pavilion, Tiwari and Kenny tried to bat the visitors out of trouble but their effort was cut short by Nipun Pandita. Tiwari was caught by Ayush Gautam off the speedster on 31.

Kenny did not last long either, he was trapped in front of wickets by Jagjit on 14 as Meghalaya slumped to 77/7.

Anish Charak (26) and Warbah took the visitors to 109 before Harshit broke the 32-run stand between the two.

Jagjit and Dhawan then accounted for Lokesh Turaha (7) and Warbah (13) to bring an early end to the Meghalaya innings.

Chandigarh, though, did not have a great start to the chase as they lost their top-three batsmen before bad light brought an early end to the play.

Jagmeet Singh fell to Momin on 18, while Sanchit Sahu was dismissed by Warbah on 11. Taranpreet Singh (10) became the second victim of Warbah as the hosts ended the day on 48/3.

Only 42.3 overs could be bowled on the second day’s play.
