Girl undergoing treatment at PGI

A counsellor of the local police was called to the spot. She tried to talk to the girl, but she couldn’t give any statement. The girl, who was referred to the PGI, is undergoing treatment there.

No clue about suspects

Police teams are conducting raids, inspecting CCTVs of the area and questioning people around the victim’s house to get any clue about the suspect.

The incident came to light after the victim’s family took her to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6 here yesterday after she complained of stomach ache.

The medical examination confirmed that she was eight-week pregnant.

“As the girl is 75 per cent mentally challenged, she couldn’t reveal anything about the person who raped her. She also couldn’t tell when and where the incident took place,” Neha Chauhan, SHO at the women police station, said, adding that they were clueless about the suspect so far.

A counsellor of the local police was called to the spot. She tried to talk to the girl, but she couldn’t give any statement.

On a complaint of the victim’s father, a case under Section 6 of the POCSO Act has been registered. The victim is the eldest among three children raised by a single parent, who is a daily wager.

According to the police, the victim’s father didn’t raise suspicion on anybody from the neighbourhood.

“All three children used to stay alone at the home after their father left for work every day. There was no one to look after them,” Neha said.

The girl, who was referred to the PGI, is undergoing treatment there.

“At present, our focus is on the victim’s treatment. Once she gets well, we will try to counsel her if she can reveal anything about the incident,” the SHO said.

Meanwhile, police teams are conducting raids, inspecting CCTVs of the area and questioning people around the victim’s house to get any clue about the suspect.
