Patiala, July 4
Though Dhiru Ki Majri in Patiala has been declared a mirco-containment zone, the threat of Covid-19 spread still looms large. Reason: no police personnel and health officials were seen at the entry and exit points when this correspondent visited the area today.
People were seen roaming freely. Residents said initially, the policemen were present. However, after two or three days, things were back to square one.
A resident said: “Those who have been quarantined at home come out and roam freely in the evening. They even buy grocery items from shops in the area.”
So far, 11 persons have been tested positive for Covid from the area.
Meantime, Monu (name changed), who has been quarantined at home, said: “There is no arrangement to provide us with essential items. Therefore, we have to go out for essentials such as cooking gas.”
As per the micro-containment zone policy, there should be no unchecked movement of people in the zone.
Patiala Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Charanjit Singh said: “Police personnel have been posted at the area. They must have gone somewhere. I will ask the DSP concerned to look into the matter.”
Meanwhile, Patiala Civil Surgeon Dr Harish Malhotra said the department was actively performing their role. “We have been continuously screening and testing people in the micro-containment zone,” he said.
