Milkha Singh awarded medal posthumously

Chandigarh, February 3

Legendary athlete Milkha Singh was awarded a gold medal posthumously by the Sports Journalists’ Federation of India at a function organised in Sector 27 on Saturday. His son and veteran golfer Jeev Milkha Singh accepted the gold medal (2022), a citation and a stole.

Known to the world as “Flying Sikh”, Milkha won four gold medals at the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo and in the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta. He was the first Indian to finish fourth in the men’s 400m run at the Rome Olympics in 1960. He was chosen in the posthumous award category.

Yograj Singh, the father of former India allrounder Yuvraj Singh, said, “Milkha was a great sportsperson and also a good friend of mine. Milkha deserves Bharat Ratna.”
